Its been so loooong

But here I am posting. Im just getting my head above a HUGE amount of water! Last night, I came home and just had to sit and enjoy the fact that there is nothing required of me for many, many days.

So, what have I been doing? Im the “Cyberspace Coordinator” for a show called Butterflies of Uganda, which means I send out eblasts promoting the show and its symposiums. I used to do more, but Im not complaining. Well, sort of not. Yes, this was the show I was a cast member of, but I dropped out because I just wasnt feeling the role and I had other obligations…

Which brings me to 365 Days/365 Plays. I directed to pieces for CoA and we had an unexpected guest: Suzan Lori-Parks came by one of the performances! She was very nice, stayed after the show to talk and take pictures with us, and even stayed to chat after we had finished bombarding her with photo requests.

Heres a review and a few photos: Taco

In addition to that, im working on two more shows for Company of Angels: Bare Naked Angels 3 and The Edge of Night Baccanal. BNA Im an actor and for the Baccanal, Ill be producer, director and probably actor.

And did I mention that Kimchi is a married lady? Ive met her husband, Bjorn (weird to refer to someone as her husband) and he completely and utterly floored by her, which is as it should be.

Tomorrow begins Kila month! What am I doing? As it turns out there are 3 other birthdays in my friend circle: the 3rd, the 5th, 6th and the 7th, so it really is going to be a month of festivities. This weekend, I have a 3 night stay at a local hotel, during which theres a dinner scheduled at a restaurant called Back on the Beach which – you guessed it – is on the beach! Food and then I hope theres much gabbing ocean-side.

Then, either next weekend or the weekend after,we’re going camping! Im not a “camper’ , but the deciding factor is the site where were going is near a natural hot springs, so gonna get my soak on!

OK, lets see how long it takes folks to realize Ive posted something new :-)

My weekend

Tiring and relaxing…

Started rehearsals for Butterflies of Uganda. Tonight, we talked at length about life in a Uganda family. We are fortunate to have a couple Ugandan actors in our cast, and though they arent all from the same region, the differences are fascinating.

To date there are 5 clips from BNA on my livevideo page. If theres time, I ‘ll try to put up a sixth tomorrow. Gaining subscribers is slow, but since Ive had the account only two weeks, I guess I should be more patient.

LiveVideo is an interesting site. Internet opposers usually condemn netgeeks as antisocial misfits blaming  the impersonal nature of the net, but now cameras give people a chance to share their thoughts as they make them. Not all of it is good, there are long, laboring video web blogs (vlogs, to the intiated) which go on for more than ten minutes and you wonder who in the WORLD sits and watches them.  But then there are guys like the ex-gang member who thanks vlogs for giving him a way to talk to younger generation, or the 60+ grandmother in the UK who talks about the many things that has kept her young.

I have a lot on my plate this week: tomorrow is the monthly company meeting of Will & Co, I start my next foray into reality programming on Tuesday,  I have Butterfly rehearsals and Panther PRoductons has a meeting on Sunday to figure out what we’re shooting next.

Oh, Im also finishing Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Im enjoying it, but I understand why I stayed away when it was running: I just couldnt face the fact that Avery Brooks is not the great actor that I thought him to be. <sigh>

BTW, the second season of Soul Food is FINALLY being released in August of this year.

2 BNA clips up

So.. Ive spent most of the day working on stuff for CoA – we’re having company auditions in July, so I spent most of the day hammering out logistics and posting audition notices, not to mention doing some updates to the website.

However, yesterday, I was able to post two clips from Bare Naked Angels. Theyre on my LiveVideo page: www.livevideo.com (bookmark it and check at least once a week ;-) , but heres one for your viewing pleasure:

These are the Kila sites to bookmark: :-)

Butterflies of Uganda

BOU poster Just got the word. Ive been cast in the world premiere production Butterflies of Uganda. Its about a woman, who used to be a child soldier, relives the experience as she tells her story to her daughter.

BTW, I forgot to mention my new computer has arrived! However, i also have use of a company computer – laptop – so Im having all sorts of fun. Wireless access is a thing of beauty.

Introducing Panther Productions

(this is the same company I produced 2Gents and Juliet/Othello under). three weeks ago, i called a meeting to talk about what projects we could accomplish this summer and this is what came out of it:

Oh, this shoot happened on the Sunday before Memorial Day

http://www.kilakitu.org/pantherproductions.html

THE CONCEPT: take a simple A/B scene and how it could serve different situations. Over the course of the day (9am till almost 10pm!), we shot three scenes: a soap opera spoof, a crime drama and a scifi murder mystery. Though there’s obviously a learning curve, the final products came out well.

Style1 : Crime Drama
Synopsis: Undercover cop Gwen is surprised by the arrival of Sachi, a lawyer on the case she’s investigating. The news is bad, but as it turns out, bad news isn’t the only thing Gwen should have worried about.

Style2: Soap Opera Melodrama
Synopsis: Devious dilettante Jessica is surprised by the arrival of Michael, her revolutionary-Bolshevik-anarchist-Anotone (what
musical is THAT from?) estranged lover. The tension is palatable, the hair is flowing!

Style3: Scifi Murder Mystery
Synopsis: People are dying all around. Can Jane convince Jack to use his gifts to save them even though he may lose himself?

Now I have movies to edit

Hold on to you socks – peoples. When I finally do get my new computer, I can get started on editing 2Gents and BNA. Thats right, madre – you can get your very own DVD of me LIVE ON STAGE :-)

When you say? Well thats the part I dont know. Editing movies takes a lot of memory and even though I have 3 times as much as my old computer, I may still have to piecemeal it out.

Also, I promised BNA’s director that I would get hers done this summer (Im not in BNA, I was the assistant director)  but as I have small chunks completed, Ill send them out.

My computer died ;-(

My G3 finally went to the great beyond after 3 years of steadfast service.  The problem, I think ,had something to do with the harddrive. Didnt spend too much time worrying about since, I was already turning my attention to getting a newer model anyway: technology has progressed so that most of my programs are un-updatable on a  G3.

However, since I think the computer is salvageable, Im gonna see about selling it for parts, or donating it to a school.

Luckily, I was able to find a used G4 on Ebay. Cross  your fingers that it serves me as well as is predecessor did. I expect it will serve me better :-)

Wildfire!

Evac map

In case anyone was worried. Well, never mind. I live here and I didnt know there was a fire until 8pm. To be safe, I think Im taking Monkey to work with me tomorrow

Wheew!

Sorry, am – I got busy and busy and busy!

Bare Naked Angels is over. Whats BNA? Its a creative-writing process that culminates in stage performances and I was the assistant director on BNA 2: Angels Unmasked.

While working on it, I created a video promo for it and now Ive got the editing bug. You should be able to watch it here:

Oh, Im almost finished redesigning my site( note the links to the gallery will be back soon :-) Let me know what you think.

http://www.kilakitu.org

And yes, Im still have a steady income :-)

BTW, CoA’s Artistic Director has a blog now (or will once I embed it into the page. Its on WordPress, though – as soon as I find it, Ill post the link. Im trying to get them to do a blog for the educational arm which  you professionals and retired professionals might find interesting
