My weekend

Tiring and relaxing…

Started rehearsals for Butterflies of Uganda. Tonight, we talked at length about life in a Uganda family. We are fortunate to have a couple Ugandan actors in our cast, and though they arent all from the same region, the differences are fascinating.

To date there are 5 clips from BNA on my livevideo page. If theres time, I ‘ll try to put up a sixth tomorrow. Gaining subscribers is slow, but since Ive had the account only two weeks, I guess I should be more patient.

LiveVideo is an interesting site. Internet opposers usually condemn netgeeks as antisocial misfits blaming  the impersonal nature of the net, but now cameras give people a chance to share their thoughts as they make them. Not all of it is good, there are long, laboring video web blogs (vlogs, to the intiated) which go on for more than ten minutes and you wonder who in the WORLD sits and watches them.  But then there are guys like the ex-gang member who thanks vlogs for giving him a way to talk to younger generation, or the 60+ grandmother in the UK who talks about the many things that has kept her young.

I have a lot on my plate this week: tomorrow is the monthly company meeting of Will & Co, I start my next foray into reality programming on Tuesday,  I have Butterfly rehearsals and Panther PRoductons has a meeting on Sunday to figure out what we’re shooting next.

Oh, Im also finishing Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Im enjoying it, but I understand why I stayed away when it was running: I just couldnt face the fact that Avery Brooks is not the great actor that I thought him to be. <sigh>

BTW, the second season of Soul Food is FINALLY being released in August of this year.

  1. Re: Avery Brooks. If you can find Bill Gaither’s “New Orleans Homecoming” video, I think Brooks’ ‘Go Down Death” will restore your faith. Remember network TV is about ratings, money, and then talent. You get what you pay for.
Case: The young man on “One on One”. The daughter’s boyfriend. Thought he was a flyweight ’til I saw a performance on a drama. The emotional depth was incredible.
And why Disney chose to promote Lindsey Lohan and what’s her name instead of the girl who plays the daughter in “One on One “is incomprehensible. Well, maybe at the time it seemed more lucrative.
Anyway, glad you’re busy and enjoying yourself.
P.S. DS9 did take some getting used to. Well, all of them did, even “Next Generation”. Never did get quite comfortable with “Voyager”. Just getting to “Enterprise”. Its good for some pre-Star Trek classic backstory. Really liked “Seaquest” though technically, it wasn’t a StarTrek franchise. Could have been if Roddenbery had chosen to go underwater. Would have been a worthy one, too.

PPS: New opera premiering in Petersburg on the 30th. About pre-Civil War Petersburg black family. I think its the biggest thing since “Harriet Tubman” premiered in Norfolk. Will try to figure out how to e-mail the article.

    PPPS: What ‘s a URI ?
